Faith Based Support

While there are some great mainstream support and guidance, it can sometimes seem difficult to find advice that is relevant to your faith. 

In this section we’ve collated support from different faith based organisations to help. 

York Interfaith

We aim to contribute to the promotion of mutual respect and understanding between faith communities and aim to respond to the new & changing ethnic and faith mix of population in York.

AJAR - Asylum Justice and Release Leeds

AJAR is a network of people in Leeds, often from faith communities, seeking to help people currently in detention who have a valid case for applying for bail. It supports asylum seekers who have been detained beyond reason, are struggling with support and would live in the Leeds area if released.

Al Hurraya

Al-Hurraya was founded in 2014 by Asad Fazil after he recognised that there was an emerging need of a service which works directly with minority communities.

He wanted to offer services where he could use his specialism, empower people and engage with them.

Mutlifaith Centre

The Centre exists to promote mutual understanding between people of different faiths/beliefs and none and to build respect between people as fellow human beings across cultures. The Centre is a shared space where people are invited to speak freely and fearlessly.

Leicester Council Of Faiths

Leicester Council of Faiths promotes trust, understanding and co-operation among the city’s faith communities, speaks up for their viewpoint on significant issues, and provides reliable information to civic authorities, service providers, educational institutions and local media. 

Inter Faith Forum for Leicestershire

The Inter Faith Forum for Leicestershire was developed in July 2008 as a network to promote greater understanding and awareness of religion, faith and belief. It brings together representatives from faith communities, along with other interested individuals.

S.W.A.N

Acts as a catalyst to develop positive change in the community and to inspire, develop and empower women to live confident and fulfilled lives, A support network for women & victims of abuse.

 

Taraki

Tarkai works with Punjabi communities to create spaces where all individual can access mental health awareness, education and support to better care for themselves and one another. 

Bristol Mind

Bristol branch of the nationwide mental health organisation. Run emotional support helplines, virtual drop-ins, offer advocacy services and resources on how to care for your mental health during the pandemic.

Refugee Women of Bristol

Refugee Women of Bristol (RWoB) is the only multi-ethnic, multi-faith organisation which specifically targets the needs of refugee women in Bristol, and are directly governed by women of the refugee and asylum-seeking community.

Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society

The Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society is a faith-based (Shī’a Ithnā ʿAsharī ) organisation working to meet the needs of the Scottish Shia Muslim community and the breadth of society in general across the cultural, social, political, and religious spectra. We work to engage with other communities and faiths; strengthening ties in an effort to create a setting for religious and racial harmony, equality, and diversity in the nation. The Edinburugh Muslim Community Association

The Edinburgh Muslim Community Association’ is a non-sectarian grassroots organisation formed in 2004 by a group of committed converts to Islam and Muslim youth of Scotland. The Association aims are to establish positive community cohesion between the Scottish Muslim community and the general public, provide practical assistance, care and promote unity in society and the Muslim Community. The Jamia Masjid & Islamic Centre

The Jamia Masjid & Islamic Centre offers the following services:

  • Janaaza (Funeral Prayer).
  • Nikkah (Islamic Marriage Ceremony).
  • Advice session for health and well-being 
  • Advice session for finance 

The Zainab Foundation

The Zainab Foundation reaches people through its bookshops, which provide a large range of Islamic books and ornaments bought from the UK and around the World. They have also donated books to be used for the National Curriculum. During the month of Ramadan the charity provides clothing and rations for those in need.

Trubys Garden Tea Room

Trubys Garden Tea Room is an interfaith community cafe run by Muslim women building positive relationships between communities in Milton Keynes

Brighton & Hove Muslim Forum

Brighton & Hove Muslim Forum is a non profit organisation hoping to serve the religious, social, and cultural needs of the Brighton & Hove Muslim Community. Their primary aim is to provide support and weekend activities for Muslim children and to work and assist with projects for Muslim women.

Chinese Welfare Association - Belfast

The Chinese Welfare Association Northern Ireland is a community support group that seeks to provide services such as: community development, youth and children work, education, welfare rights, race relations & training and community interpreting. To find out more please check ou the Facebook page.

YMCA North Down

YMCA North Down is a faith-based volunteer organisation that seeks to support the local community across North Downs. The organisation's ethos is to support young people, families and the local community to 'flourish in mind, body and spirit'. Muslim Bereavement Support Service

The Muslim Bereavement Support Service is a registered charity, founded in 2012. We are a non-profit organisation serving the Muslim community by supporting bereaved women who have lost a loved one. We also work with other organisations, the NHS and hospices in particular, to give a spiritual context to the bereavement support services they offer.

Giuseppe Conlon House

Giuseppe Conlon House is a House of Hospitality for migrants and asylum seekers with no recourse to public funds. It is run by volunteers of the London Catholic Worker community.

Hackney CVS

Hackney CVS is an important umbrella body committed to making Hackney a fairer place. They believe everyone should have the best start in life and the best opportunities to succeed regardless of their background, race, social class, gender, sexuality or disability. 

Strabane Ethnic Community Association

The Aims of Strabane Ethnic Community Association is to identify and respond to the needs of minority ethnic communities and to raise awareness and understanding within the local community as Northern Ireland become more diverse. 

Sarbat LGBT Sikhs

Sarbat is a volunteer led group addressing LGBT issues from a Sikh perspective. They organise regular events to encourage discussions, tackle homophobia/biphobia/transphobia and build bridges within and beyond their communities.

Keshet UK

Keshet UK's mission is to ensure that Jewish LGBT+ people and their families are included throughout Jewish life in the UK. Jewish LGBT+ people exist in all walks of life. Keshet UK aspires to work with all UK Jewish communities, including Liberal, Masorti, Orthodox and Reform, cross-communal and non-denominational organisations.

Inclusive Mosque Initiative

The Inclusive Mosque Initiative is dedicated to creating safe and inclusive places of worship and spiritual practice, to the promotion of inclusive Islamic principles, and to centring and uplifting the voices and experiences of marginalised people within communities.

London Buddhist Centre

London Buddhist Centre teaches meditation and Buddhism in a way that is relevant to contemporary life. They offer a full schedule of classes and events available online. They also run yoga classes, PoetryEast, school visits, two charity shops, fairs, festivals and classes for people under 25 - all in an atmosphere of community and friendship.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a worldwide evangelical Christian church. They provide a range of outreach support services.
