During lockdown, individuals and families may be exposed to various challenges.  In this section, we have curated the main support organisations for children and families.

Try and keep a mobile phone with you at all times if possible. The police are a key service when in immediate danger. Do not be afraid to call 999 in an emergency.

EACH Counselling and Support

EACH was established in 1991 as Ethnic Alcohol Counselling in Hounslow to address this gap. It was the first Asian specific community-based alcohol service to be established in the UK and a pioneer in the provision of culturally sensitive alcohol services.

 

 

Africa Advocacy Foundation

Empowers individuals to take control of their health and wellbeing through accurate information, advice and guidance.

They provide safe, judgment-free and inclusive platforms for community members to discuss and engage in activities that promote healthy lifestyle choices. 

Shelter

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through advice, support, and legal services.

Crisis

Crisis is a national charity for homeless people. They provide help so that people can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good.

They offer one to one support, advice and courses for homeless people in 12 areas across England, Scotland and Wales. How they help someone depends on their individual needs and situation.

Alcohol Change can support you to access information and advice on alcohol during the Coronavirus outbreak,

This includes tips for managing your drinking, links to support you can access even while self-isolating, and guidance for professionals.

Drink Aware

Drink Aware provides independent advice, information and tools to help people make better choices about their drinking.

If you are concerned that you or someone you care about has a problem with alcohol there is lots of help available via Drink Aware. You can find some useful links and phone numbers on their website, as well as an online chat option.

Action on Addiction

Action on Addiction is a UK addictions charity.

They provide life-saving treatment for individuals and families affected by all kinds of addiction including alcohol, drugs (prescribed and nonprescribed), gambling, gaming, sex and love, and some food-related disorders.

Khan Academy

A nonprofit with the mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere - a range of courses are available for a children with different skills, abilities & interests.

NSPCC

The NSPCC believes that it’s up to each of us to do everything possible to keep childhood safe from abuse, so children can grow up healthy and thrive.

Amongst a range of resources, they now have a dedicated Coronavirus advice and support hub for parents and carers.

Gingerbread

The charity for single parent families. They provide expert advice and practical support for single mums and dads in England and Wales.

British Red Cross

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

They also help with urgent needs of refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants. The help they can offer will depend on where you are.

Family Fund - helping disabled children

Family Fund is the UK’s largest charity providing grants for families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people.
