Purbeck Good Neighbours is a volunteer group who can help older people over 50 with small or difficult one-off tasks in their home. They can help with; clearing rubbish, filing, moving furniture, helping with paperwork and letters, changing lightbulbs and batteries, and more.

MyUmbrella LGBT+

MyUmbrella LGBT+ is a volunteer led project of Reading Pride to raise awareness of the lesser known identities across the sexuality, gender, romantic and fetish spectrum's collectively known as LGBT+.

Space Youth Project

Space runs regular, free youth groups all across Dorset, in Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester, Weymouth, Beaminster, and Sherborne, for every LGBT+ person regardless of race, religion, or social background.

Ricochet is a support group for the families and friends of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people in Dorset.

LGBT Dorset Equality Network

A charity and community organisation run by and for Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans community members. The network initiates and develops lobbying and educational information campaigns, as well as creating community space.

Bournemouth Churches Housing Association

BCHA are a major provider of a diverse range of housing, support and learning services for socially excluded people. Although based in Bournemouth, they currently deliver services across the South from Plymouth to Reading.

The Shores

The Shores in Dorset provides a service to men and women who have experienced rape or sexual assault. They work hard to acknowledge the extra barriers faced by ethnic minorities, LGBT+ individuals, and those with physical, learning or mental difficulties.

Sexual Trauma and Recovery Service (STAR)

STAR is a pan-Dorset charity that offers one to one support, free of charge, for anyone of any age or gender, who lives works or studies in Dorset and has experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives.

My Time Young Carers

My Time works to support young carers across the South. My Time makes it possible for young carers to have a break and balance their mental and physical wellbeing. The charity provides respite adventure breaks in a residential outdoor centre in the Isle of Purbeck.

Dorset Parent-Carer Council aims to improve the life and opportunities for families, children and young people with additional needs or disabilities. They provide many consultation and working and steering groups.

New Forest Young Carers

New Forest Young Carers support Young Carers and their families across the New Forest. They can help families access services that will make their lives easier as well as offering Young Carers time out and respite from their caring responsibilities.

Carer Support Dorset

Carer Support Dorset supports carers of people over 18 in Dorset. They help carers access services, information, education and training, respite and breaks from their caring role. They have a dedicated service for under-18s.

MOSAIC

Mosaic offers a pathway of support and guidance for bereaved children, young people and their families across Dorset. They also offer support to those facing the death of a loved one.

Cornwall Hospice Care

Cornwall Hospice Care supports patients with life limiting illnesses from the age of 18 onwards. The charity also extends that care to their families and friends.

Children's Hospice South West

Children’s Hospice South West has three children’s hospices in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. Respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care is provided alongside bereavement support.

Home-Start Kernow

This Cornwall charity matches families who need an extra helping hand with volunteers who have bundles of parenting experience. During lockdown they are providing online chats, signposting, referrals for volunteer support and groups, as well as Zoom groups.

People and Gardens

Through gardening and growing, People and Gardens in St Austell enables people with learning disabilities or emotional impairments to be able to develop as individuals, to learn work and social skills and to have equality of choice and opportunity in the workplace.

Hearing Loss Cornwall

Hearing Loss Cornwall works to ensure people who are deaf or live with hearing loss can remain an active and valued part of their community through communication support, technology, signposting, a community centre as well as a dedicated service for children and young people.

First Light

First Light is a charity supporting people in Cornwall, Devon and Wiltshire who have experienced domestic violence and domestic abuse, from support through the court system to counselling and creating safe plans for individuals to rebuild their lives.

Bosence Farm

Bosence Farm offers residential rehabilitation and detox support for people struggling with alcohol or drug addition. Based in Hayle, they run a Rehab, a Detox & Stabilisation Centre, as well as a dedicated Young Person's Unit.

The Wave Project

Dubbed the Surf Therapy charity, this organisation works with young people to reduce anxiety and improve confidence through surfing. 

Penhaligon's Friends

Set up in 1995, Penhaligon’s Friends supports bereaved children and their families throughout Cornwall. They offer children and young people a chance to meet others and share their experiences, as well as practical resources for children and parents.

iSight Cornwall

iSight Cornwall was set up more than 160 years ago to support miners who had lost their sight. Formerly Cornwall Blind Association, the charity aims to be the first port of call for anyone affected by sight lost, whatever their age, circumstance or condition.

Intercom Trust

disAbility Cornwall & Isles of Scilly are a values based, user-led charitable company with a mission to represent, include, support and empower people living with a long term health condition or disability, their families and carers. 

Carefree Cornwall

Carefree works with young people aged 11-25 who are in and leaving care across Cornwall. They engage in positive social education activities, events and projects, as well as a personal advisor service for about half of Cornwall's care leavers.

The Beehive Centre

The Beehive Centre aims to reduce social isolation and connect communities in Whitehall and St. George. The Centre hosts social events and activities and many activities are tailored to the needs of older people (55+ years).

Filwood Hope

Filwood Hope is a walk-in centre which provides the local community of Knowle West with advice and support on benefit, debt and housing. This service also provides counselling on a daily basis. They also host advisers from Age UK offering advice to those over 55.

Hope Projecet

The Hope Project in Bristol provides short-term emotional and practical support for men aged 30-64, specifically those who are in psychological distress or have recently self-harmed, but are not currently engaged with other mental health services.

NB:SouthWest

Non-Binary South West is a peer support group for trans* people in the South West of England (or beyond) with non-binary gender identities. They host a secret Facebook group, and have regular meetings in central Exeter.

Crossroads

The Bristol Crossroads group has been supporting the transgender community in and around Bristol for over 25 years. The meetings are informal and provide the opportunity for all transgender people and their partners and family to meet and dress in a safe and supportive environment. There are changing facilities available for those who need them.

1625 Independent People

1625 Independent People is a charity that supports young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the South West. They find secure homes, teach life-skills, offer advice, help access training and job opportunities.

Bluebell Care

Bluebell offers therapeutic support in a number of ways for new parents experiencing anxiety and low mood during pregnancy and up to 2 years after birth across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, BANES, North Somerset and South Devon.

Kinergy

Kinergy is a specialist counselling agency offering support for survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence in Bristol. Kinergy is inclusive to all genders, 16 years and above. The website features help guides, leaflets, apps and information on other support available.

Headway Bristol

Headway have just over 40 years experience in helping survivors of brain injury live as independently as possible. They provide social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury across Bristol, North and North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.

Somerset and Avon Rape & Sexual Abuse Support

SARSAS provide support to people who have experienced rape or any kind of sexual assault or abuse at any time in their lives through counselling, live chat and other specialist support. They are open to all; girls, boys, women, men, trans and non-binary individuals.

Womankind

Womankind helps hundred of women across the South West every year to improve their mental health and well-being so they can experience a better quality of life. They offer counselling, group therapy, befriending as well as a speciality service for deaf women.

Tanya's Courage Trust

The Trust aids young people aged 16-25 fighting Cancer, or affected by Cancer, throughout Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and Devon by the provision of grants which can be used towards relieving physical or financial needs.

The Marmalade Trust

Brigstowe

Brigstowe in Bristol offer specialist, confidential and free support, advice and information to anyone living with or affected by HIV. They run a specialist service for Migrants and Asylum Seekers, as well as a specialist service for those living with Type 2 Diabetes.

Hawkspring

Hawkspring is a community rooted organisation based in Hartcliffe, an area that is within the worst 1% of deprivation in England and Wales. Hawkspring provides confidential support to both adults and primary school aged children.

The SWAN Project

SWAN in Bristol offer low-cost counselling primarily to those suffering from addiction, however they won't turn anyone away if they think they can help. The therapy they offer can last for up to 2 years.

The Junction Project

The Junction Project in Bristol is an accommodation-based drug and alcohol service. They provide good quality housing combined with individual support to men and women whose lives have been directly affected by alcohol or substance misuse.

Chandos House

The Willow Tree Centre

Avon and Wiltshire Specialised Deaf Service

Cornwall Islamic Community Centre

Run by the Cornwall Islamic Trust, this is the first and only dedicated Islamic Centre in Cornwall. The centre holds a number of weekly and annual events including prayers, Sunday school, women's groups and other cultural responsibilities.

South Asian Society Devon and Cornwall

The main aim of this society is to create a cultural, social and mutual support network for Devon and Cornwall’s increasingly large South Asian community. SAaS has a wide membership base of people who are drawn from countries surrounding the Indian sub-continent or are part of the Asian Diaspora. They provide social welfare, recreation alongside multicultural events.

Devon and Cornwall Chinese Association

The Devon and Cornwall Chinese Association is a non-political, non-religious organisation formed to serve and represent the interests of those members of the Chinese community.

CHAYN

The No Accommodation Network (NACCOM)

NACCOM represents a network of organisations seeking to prevent destitution amongst migrants with no recourse to public funds. Member organisations provide accommodation and support to asylum seekers, refugees and other vulnerable migrants, and NACCOM provide resources and support for our members.

Doctors of the World

Doctors of the World's vision is a world where everyone can see a doctor when they need to. They provide free healthcare, advice and practical support to people who struggle to access NHS services, while working to tackle the barriers to healthcare they face. They believe everyone has the right to healthcare, regardless of their immigration status.

Just For Kids Law

 

Just For Kids Law exists to help children and young people overcome all the difficulties they face, from problems at school and issues with immigration status to trouble with the police. They support young people through youth advocacy, legal support and youth projects

Article 39

 

Article 39 is a small, independent charity which fights for the rights of children living in state and privately-run institutions (children’s homes, boarding and residential schools, mental health inpatient units, prisons and immigration detention) in England.

INQUEST

INQUEST is the only charity providing expertise on state related deaths and their investigation to bereaved people, lawyers, advice and support agencies, the media and parliamentarians. Their specialist casework includes deaths in police and prison custody, immigration detention, mental health settings and deaths involving multi-agency failings or where wider issues of state and corporate accountability are in question.

QTPoC Mental Health
